Understanding certificates.

Bonus, cash collect, express and leverage properly explained: how barriers and premiums work, what these products really promise and how the Italian tax system treats them. An independent guide for investors.

Certificates are the commercial phenomenon of recent Italian finance: over twenty billion euros placed every year, thousands of listed instruments, and a promise — yield with an airbag — tailor-made for savers' wishes. Behind the promise there are formulas: barriers, conditional premiums, memory effect, autocall, worst of. Those who understand them can use them; those who do not, suffer them.

This guide exists for the first half of that fork: to take the package apart piece by piece — the four families, the mechanisms that decide premiums and losses, the practice of buying — and to give the tax chapter the attention it deserves: because it is there, in the redditi diversi regime that offsets capital losses, that certificates keep their most concrete advantage.

It is an independent guide, written by someone who issues nothing, places nothing and collects no commission from any product: it names mechanisms, not brands, and when the simple alternative beats the package, it says so. It provides the foundations — the ones every investor should have before signing.

Inside

What you really own when you own a certificate: the signature behind the package, the clauses that decide everything, the engine of options — and the three mechanisms that govern premiums and losses.

The four families of the ACEPI classification, one by one: protected capital and its price, the conditional products with barriers and worst of, the non-protected — and leverage, which is another trade altogether.

The practice of buying, the map of risks and the place — small, but real — of these instruments in a portfolio. With the tax chapter that guards their true advantage, and the closing glossary.
